ChatGPT Outperforms Medical Students On Reasoning Exams 💉

To any parents paying $300k for their kid’s med school: I apologize in advance.

We know already that ChatGPT can pass the MCAT and USMLE.

This study asked it to complete clinically-relevant tasks at the level of 1st & 2nd-year students, like summarizing cases and creating problem lists.

The verdict:

1. GPT-4 scored way better than GPT-3.5.

2. GPT-4 outperformed students by 4%.

This was due to ChatGPT being better at creating problem lists than students.

Why it matters: There’s a dilemma here (creds Prof Eric Strong). The fact is, professionals across fields will inevitably harness AI, just like Excel is a workplace staple today.

However, when it comes to education, should educators teach students how to use AI as they study law/medicine/data, or ignore it so they don’t become too dependent on it?
