😺 Quantum's ChatGPT moment?
PLUS: Code to build your own "robot friend."
Welcome, humans.
People are sharing the “craziest way” they interact with AI in their daily lives on Reddit, and the results are pretty interesting:
One user admitted to uploading text arguments with their girlfriend and having AI draft responses, quickly adding that actually sending these would probably “get me killed.”
Another person claimed they’ve started to replace all tasks that required “traditional UX” like expense tracking, currency conversion, and time zone adjustments.
And then there’s someone who built an “open-source robot friend with autonomy” (and shared the code, if you’re feeling extra Tony Stark today).
Sounds like we’re just a few model drops away from everyone turning into this dude:
Here’s what you need to know about AI today:
Google made a big quantum computer breakthrough.
Jony Ive wants $1B to build a touchscreen-inspired device for OpenAI.
26+ US states have or soon will regulate AI in election communications.
1X Technologies announced a “world model” for robots.
Are quantum computers about to have their “ChatGPT moment”?
Wait a minute… “quantum” computers? What is this, some sort of Marvel comic?!
Actually, quantum computers are very real, and very near. And some in the industry think quantum computers are about to have their “ChatGPT moment” in ~18 months.
In fact, the UN declared 2025 the “International year of Quantum Science.” And would you look at that… it’s almost 2025!
The latest qnews is that Google’s Quantum AI team unveiled a new system that reduces “quantum errors” better than other systems. This is a big deal, because errors = quantum’s biggest problem atm.
First, what the heck are quantum computers? Imagine a computer that can solve ridiculously hard problems our best supercomputers can't touch—that's the promise of quantum computing.
But “quantum information” is incredibly fragile—think of it like a kaleidoscope, always shifting and changing. So working with these machines is like trying to build a sandcastle while waves constantly wash it away.
This is where quantum error correction comes in, and why Google's latest results are a big deal. Google’s new system not only corrected more errors, but does a better job the bigger it gets—meaning, in theory, its a scalable solution to quantum power.
Why do we need quantum computers anyway? Three main reasons:
Quantum “computing”—calculations that solve multiple problems at once, much faster than regular computers.
Quantum communication—really powerfully encrypted satellites (like China is testing) or internet (like this test in NYC).
Quantum sensors—super precise GPS that measures the Earth’s magnetic field (and is actually in use today).
And, most importantly, quantum computers may likely power the next generation of AI… called, you guessed it, “quantum AI.”
The challenge to achieve this? Scaling up the quantum computers while keeping errors in check—exactly what Google’s new system addresses.

Good discussion in the comments.
Jony Ive (the iPhone designer) is working with Sam Altman to create a new computing device, supposedly inspired by touchscreen technology and the O.G. iPhone, and is trying to raise $1B by the end of the year.
At least 26 U.S. states have passed or are considering laws regulating the use of generative AI in election communications.
1X Technologies (the robot company) announced a new “world model” to help robots predict how the world changes based on their actions.

Here’s what #Neuron readers had to say about last week’s video:
F.C: “The signs on the buildings and storefronts are gibberish. Cars have no license plate numbers. In a couple of scenes, background people spontaneously disappear, appear, or teleport when a skateboarder moves in front of them. Not enough variety in car colors and types.”
A.R: “All the bystanders in the background slowly melting into blobs.”
A.D: “The deck changing from design to grip. Impossible midair pauses. Did that pair of shoes change design mid-trick? sheeeeeeeesh” (this guy skates!)
