PLUS: Our 4 spicy predictions for 2024

Welcome, humans.

Microsoft is tapping into nuclear energy to fuel its AI projects, which, for most folks, is the scariest combination of two items since pineapple made its way onto pizza.

Hereā€™s what you need to know about AI today:

  • OpenAI is bringing news content to ChatGPT.

  • Weā€™re sharing our spiciest predictions for 2024!

  • Google announced a better version of its AI image generator ā€œImagen 2ā€.

  • You can now upgrade to ChatGPT Plus again.

OpenAI wants Axel Springer for its precious data archive.

ZDNET

Well, well, well, how the turntables.

Just five months back, Axel Springer was rumored to be joining a coalition planning to sue companies like OpenAI for stealing their content.

Now, itā€™s teaming up with OpenAI to put news from outlets like Politico, Bild, and, yes, Business Insider right into ChatGPT.

Thatā€™s assuming people actually want to read news in ChatGPT:

  • Our trials with ChatGPT, Google SGE, and Perplexity for news have been so-soā€”weā€™ve found it hard to find exactly what youā€™re looking for.

  • Plus, people seek out outlets they likeā€¦and both the political left and right are already fuming about Axel Springer being too biased (LOL).

TBT: Big Tech has tried to aggregate news beforeā€¦with little success (e.g. Facebook News).

Hereā€™s our take: This is all about OpenAI getting their hands on more data.

For ChatGPT to improve, it needs more unique data, a HerculeanĀ task when youā€™ve practically devoured the entire internet. This is why OpenAI paid the American Journalism Project $5M in July for news access.

Itā€™s also why companies like Reddit and Twitter are paywalling their treasure troves of data so chatbots canā€™t get their paws on it.

Data is the new oil, folks!

FROM OUR PARTNERS

Calling all developers: we need your input!

Weā€™ve been to enough AI developer meetups to know two things:

  1. People are always building cool stuff

  2. Thereā€™s always a more powerful tool or platform out there

Our partners at Developer Nation just opened their yearly survey to figure out whatā€™s in and whatā€™s out. Do your part for the developer ecosystem by taking the official Developer Nation Survey!

Every participant will get sent the results, along with a virtual goodie bag with FREE resources. And letā€™s not forget a chance at some phenomenal prizes!

Weā€™ve got some big predictions for 2024.

2023 was the most change the world has ever seen. 2024 could be even crazier. The Neuron will keep you prepared day in and day out.

Hereā€™s whatā€™s on the horizon:

  1. Multimodal AI gets huge. Instead of just typing, more people will talk to AI, listen to it, create images, get visual feedback, create graphs, and more.

  2. AI video gets really good. So far, AI videos have been cool-but-not-practical. Theyā€™re getting way better and we're on the verge of seeing 100% AI-generated films, animations, and cartoons.

  3. AI on our phones. Imagine Siri with the brains of ChatGPT-4 and the ambition of Alexa. TBD who pulls this off first!

  4. GPT-5. ā€˜Nuff said.

Google announced its upgraded AI image generator ā€œImagen 2ā€.

Itā€™s said to be able to generate ā€œtextā€¦emblems, lettermarks, and abstract logosā€ on images, a big plus for product images or ads.

It also has invisible watermarks so images can be detected as AI.

Only available for developers and cloud customers in Google Cloud Vertex AI (#sorrytnotsorry).
