PLUS: Reddit's rolling out AI search...

Welcome, humans.

Weā€™re really only a couple of months into this new era of AI videoā€”call it AI videoā€™s ā€œ2.0 eraā€ā€”and every day the internet is consistently delivering solid gold nuggets, like this AI-made trailer for ā€œThe Fast & The Furryous.ā€

IYKYK: ā€œI live my life one quarter meow at a timeā€¦ā€

We truly donā€™t know how to feel about the cat playing Vin Dieselā€¦ but itā€™s definitely the right cat for the job! (Check the video and youā€™ll see what we mean).

Thereā€™s also been an AI trailer for ā€œJohn Wick: Chapter 19ā€ featuring an elderly Keanu Reeves, and another one for ā€œGrand Theft Auto: India.ā€

Hereā€™s what you need to know about AI today:

  • Figure's humanoid robot got an upgrade with OpenAI-powered speech.

  • Reddit will add AI-powered search with summaries at the top of results.

  • NVIDIA's H100 GPUs lack enough memory to train large AI video models.

  • South Korea introduced new AI textbooks that adapt to students' reading levels.

The humanoid robot company backed by OpenAI just got an upgrade.

One of the most well-funded, advanced, and hands-down coolest humanoid robots (think robots that can do human things) just got an upgrade: Meet Figure 02

According to founder Brett Adcock, they rebuilt Figure 02 from the ground up to add:

  • Six cameras, and a ā€œvisual language modelā€ (to make decisions on what it sees)

  • 50% more battery life (for a 5 hour runtime, like a human shift!)

  • Integrated speech-to-speech reasoning powered by OpenAI (so it can talk to you).

Letā€™s talk about speech-to-speech reasoning. The Figure 02 robots use a custom AI model from OpenAI, along with its onboard speakers and mic, to hold a conversation with you in real time. It can understand youā€”as much as any chatbot ā€œunderstandsā€ you, anyway.

Why does this matter? These robots are literally working, right nowā€”BMW just completed a successful test with the robots in South Carolina.

And Figureā€™s not alone. The humanoid robot race is heating up:

NVIDIA even announced a new developer program for those who want to build humanoid robots. If Nvidiaā€™s involved, you know humanoid bots are gonna be big!

The most intriguing part of the demo: The end credits. Figure 02 is designed to perform ā€œhuman-like tasks within the workforce and in the home.ā€ In. Your. Home.

Home robots are on the rise. Like check out this new home robot who will do your chores (partly powered by NVIDIA!), or Amazonā€™s Astro Home Robot thatā€™s like a little security guard.

Our take: Itā€™s good to keep hardware progress in perspectiveā€”after all, hardware (like humanoid bots) is hard to scale.

Itā€™s the software that matters hereā€¦ just think about how impressive all the ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode demos are. Being able to talk naturally to your tech will be huge, whether it's your smart speaker, your nest, or your humanoid chorebot 9,000.

Create AI images thatā€™ll make your brand pop on AWS

You know those AI-generated images that look so real you do a double-take? Yeah, those ones.

Well, now you can create them for your business using Stability AI on AWS.

Top brands are already jumping on this trend, using Stability AI to turn text prompts into highly detailed images that actually reflect their brand identity.

We're talking consistent, on-brand visuals, not some random AI fever dream artwork.

Learn how to go from "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if..." to jaw-dropping visuals by leveraging Stability AI on AWS and leave the competition in the dust.

Around the Horn.

Good thread on the state of the AI video race.

  • Reddit plans to launch AI powered summaries that pop up at the top of its results like Googleā€™s SGE.

  • NVIDIAā€™s H100 GPUs apparently donā€™t have enough memory to handle the massive amount of video data needed to train AI video models (500K hours = 1,000 terabytes).

  • South Koreaā€™s new ā€œfuture classroomsā€ will use AI-enabled textbooks to assess a readerā€™s reading level and edit the content accordingly.

(NEW): What gives it away that this is AI?

Weā€™re introducing a new section! That is, if you like it.

Hereā€™s the idea behind it: AI-generated videos are having a moment. Some seem jarringly real. Others are p(AI)nfully fake.

Every Monday/Wednesday, weā€™ll post a new AI video, and your job is to tell us what about the video gives it away as being AI.

Ready? One look, everyone knows the rules:
