😺 🎙️ PODCAST: You're probably making AI harder than it needs to be...

Let's try to simplify it for you...

Welcome, humans.

Quick PSA: You're probably making AI harder than it needs to be…

Most people getting into AI either A) don't know what they need to do to get good output, or B) think they have to be a god-tier prompter or epic AI agent whisperer to make AI work.

On point A, we find people are often “trying to swallow an elephant whole”, or attempting overly ambitious tasks with basic prompts that lack the context to actually accomplish them.

And on point B, we find people get super excited about all these awesome tools, but in practice, you really don't need to jump straight to building complex agents when a simple prompt works.

And for more use-cases than you think, you really don't need to spend hours crafting elaborate prompts when just asking a direct question is better (especially with the advent of GPT-5 and the “universal model router”).

But then again, of course, there are definitely times you really DO need to craft an epic prompt or build an agent workflow. The trick is knowing when to use what.

After all, how does one eat an elephant? One bite at a time…

So how do you actually decide between chatting with AI, writing a structured prompt, building a project, or deploying an agent?

In our latest podcast episode, Grant and Corey break down the exact framework for choosing the right AI approach for any task:

  • (1:21) What is a prompt anyway? The foundation you need to understand before anything else.

  • (4:03) Simple vs. structured prompts: When “fix this” works and when you need to think like an engineer.

  • (14:00) Projects decoded: How to save your best prompts and stop copying/pasting the same instructions every day.

  • (26:21) What are AI agents really and when / why do you actually need them?

  • (42:15) The 4-step decision framework: Start here, escalate only when needed.

  • (1:01:08) Real usage breakdown: How Grant and Corey actually split their time between different AI approaches (note: we actually have no idea, but watching us guess is funny!).

Bottom line: Start with the simplest tool that solves your problem. Don't build an agent when a basic chat will do. But also don't spend 2 pulling your hair crafting the perfect prompt trying to “one shot” a complicated task when an agent could handle the whole workflow for you.

P.S. Corey promised to actually buy something through ChatGPT Agent before the next episode. We'll report back on whether he survived the experience... 🛒

P.P.S: We do not condone any eating of any elephants, they’re beautiful wonderful and intelligent creatures! It’s just a funny expression, people!
