šŸ˜ŗ Education changed forever

PLUS: Announcing a new member of The Neuron team!

Welcome, humans.

Weā€™re pumped to introduce Grant, The Neuron's newest wordsmith and resident AI enthusiast. When he's not furiously typing away about the latest tech breakthroughs, you'll find him pounding the pavement in search of his next big scoop (of coffee ice cream) or wearing out another pair of shoes.

We're not sure if he's training for a marathon or just really passionate about step counts, but either way, we're thinking of sponsoring him with a lifetime supply of sneakers to keep him comfortable.

Nike, are you in?

Hereā€™s what you need to know about AI today:

  • Ex-OpenAI whiz Andrej Karpathy announced an AI education startup.

  • OpenAI showcased new SORA demos and what its creator interface might look like.

  • WIRED found that Apple, Nvidia, and Anthropic used YouTube videos to train their models.

  • The FTC is investigating Amazonā€™s pseudo-acquisition of Adept.

Is AI education about to enter its Renaissance Era?

One trend has become painfully obvious since AI first emerged: when the school year comes to a close in early June, ChatGPT traffic almost immediately takes a nosedive

Google Trends

And it shouldnā€™t be hard to see why. Weā€™re taught that correlation ā‰  causation in school, but as two people taking in-person and online courses, we know that students are AIā€™s top power users. Just walk into a library, and youā€™ll find ChatGPT open on every browser and not a book in sight (sad but true).

For this reason, educators donā€™t view AI too favorably, and we donā€™t blame ā€˜em.

But at The Neuron, we believe that AI can improve education by democratizing and personalizing it.

Two buzzwords, so let us show-not-tell.

Yesterday, Andrej Karpathy, who cofounded OpenAI and was Teslaā€™s AI director, announced Eureka Labs, ā€œa new kind of school that is AI native.ā€

The idea is to combine expert-created course material with AI teaching assistants to make it easy for everyone anywhere to learn anything. For example, studying physics with a Richard Feynman-like AI tutor.

His first course is called LLM101n, an undergraduate-level course that guides students through the process of creating their own AI models (itā€™s offered for free on GitHub). Using AI to make AI? Sign us up!

Eureka Labs isn't alone in this AI education revolution.

  • Khan Academy has its AI-powered Khanmigo for Teachers, which generates lesson plans and adjusts content difficulty based on the level of the student.

  • Dozens of companies raised VC funds to develop specialized AI tools for language learning, STE, and personalized tutoring.

We personally love using GPTs on our own time as learning tools for various topics, from physics to JavaScript to philosophy.

We like how we can ask ā€œwhyā€ or ā€œhow comeā€ and dive deeper into topics to ensure we truly understand themā€”itā€™s like having our own personal TAs, minus the awkward Office Hours Zoom on a random Tuesday!

FROM OUR PARTNERS

If youā€™re developing AI, get your hands on the most powerful hardware yet.

If youā€™re developing, prototyping, or fine-tuning AI models, you need Dellā€™s Precision AI workstations

These workstations support enterprise-wide AI strategy adoption for machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and more.

Around the Horn.

  • A Wired investigation found that Apple, Nvidia, and Anthropic are all using YouTube videos to train their models.

  • OpenAI just released some new SORA demos, as well as a new showcase video that shows how creators might be able to interact with it.

  • The FTC is investigating Amazonā€™s pseudo-acquisition of Adept, which raised $400M to develop LLMs for enterprise tasks.
