Qualcomm Shows Off Mobile AI Power 📱

When it comes to AI, hardware is way harder than software.

Running an AI model requires a LOT of computing power, so most are processed in the cloud - your phone just wouldn't be able to handle GPT-3, for example.

But yesterday, Qualcomm defied the odds by showcasing the fastest-ever deployment of Stable Diffusion's generative AI on a smartphone.

The demo produced a magnificent royal cat in a 512 x 512-pixel image in less than 15 seconds. That's Usain Bolt-like speed.

• For comparison, the best previous effort to squeeze Stable Diffusion onto an iPhone took 60 seconds for a similarly sized image.

• Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque thinks <1 second will eventually be possible.

Why it matters: Getting AI models to run on a smartphone rather than in the cloud is more than sending your kids silly cat pictures. Here's the mobile advantage:

1. Convenience: you don't need the internet.

2. Cost: no server bills to pay.

3. Privacy: your data isn't extracted.

Qualcomm may have some gray hairs, but experience never gets old.

ChatGPT Teams Up With Robots 🤖

We all fell in love with ChatGPT's ability to understand how humans speak. Now, Microsoft is researching how to bring that same ability to robots.

The problem with current robotics is that engineers must translate a task into code for the robot to understand.

Now, with ChatGPT, you could speak like a human, then have ChatGPT generate the code for those robots and monitor their performance in real-time.
