ChatGPT Usage Drops For The First Time 📉

ChatGPT web traffic and app downloads fell for the first time last month.

What gives?

One theory points to seasonality: students are ChatGPT power users and left school in June.

But that’s not the full picture. Here are a few other explanations floating around the Twittersphere:

• ChatGPT is being used within other products, like My AI which uses GPT’s API.

• Some users say ChatGPT’s quality has taken a hit, though this has been publicly denied by their team.

• Open-source models have been getting more love. ChatGPT isn’t the only player in town.

Why it matters: ChatGPT is a revolutionary product, but it’s not taking over the world just yet. Google’s market share in search actually increased year-over-year while Bing’s share decreased.

Summer project: With the younger crowd spending more time in the real world, OpenAI is doubling down on superintelligence alignment (think “making sure AI doesn’t kill us”).

Yesterday they announced a new team and pledged 20% of their computing power to ensure AI stays on the same page as our human objectives.
