Anyone Is An Author With ChatGPT ๐Ÿ“–

Writing a book just got way easier. Maybe too easy.

Over the last few weeks, Amazon's Kindle store has become swamped with AI-generated books, with over 200 e-books publicly acknowledging ChatGPT as co-author.

  • Generative AI has dramatically lowered the barrier to content production. In some cases, authors are publishing e-books in a matter of hours with ChatGPT.

  • Frank White is one such author who wrote a 119-page novella called "Galactic Pump: Vol. 1" in less than a day.

It's not just e-books turning upside down, but the entire publishing industry.

Just yesterday, Clarkesworld, one of the largest fiction publishers, closed submissions due to an onslaught of AI-generated spam.

"We don't have a solution for the problem. We have some ideas for minimizing it, but the problem isn't going away. Detectors are unreliable. Pay-to-submit sacrifices too many legit authors. Print submissions are not viable for us."

@clarkesworld on Twitter

Some people have expressed concerns that generative AI could decline the quality of written pieces, as authors AND non-authors seek shortcuts and fast profits.

But for now: In the same way that Instagram lets anyone become a photographer, generative AI allows anyone to become a writer.

Legend has it that Leo was an established writer long before ChatGPT came along.

Big Day for Big AI Deals ๐Ÿค

Call it AaaS: AI-as-a-Service.

Together, now: Aaaaahhhhhhhhhs.

Yesterday, two notable alliances were formed, solidifying AI's transformative potential for businesses worldwide: AWS partnering with Hugging Face and Bain teaming up with OpenAI.

Amazon is the first behemoth getting a facelift: the company's cloud unit is integrating Hugging Face's AI models for its cloud customers to build on top of.

The second, Bain, is enlisting the cool kids of OpenAI to bring its tools and platforms to clients worldwide, starting with Coca-Cola yesterday.

With AI apps saturating the market, distribution becomes the key differentiator. Companies that already have relationships with enterprises have a leg up on the rest in offering them AI products.

Smarter Than a Robot? ๐Ÿค–

These two children's books both have five stars on Amazon.

One was created by ChatGPT. The other was created by Uncle Amon, a famous children's book author.

Which book cover above is which?

Around the Horn ๐Ÿฆ„

  • Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch hinted that AI models could potentially be held liable for their outputs.

  • Eliezer Yudkowsky, an AI researcher and theorist, went on Bankless to discuss the future of AI and whether "we're all gonna die."

  • Microsoft is already loosening Bing's output restrictions, with its new rules allowing six chat turns per session and 60 chats per day.

  • Infants did better than AI models in distinguishing what motivates people's actions (NYU study).
