PLUS: AGI is here?

Welcome, humans. It's Day 113 post-ChatGPT.

Here’s what’s going on in the world of AI today:

  • Canva's new AI tools 🧰

  • Microsoft hypes up GPT-4 even more 🔥

  • Win $1,000 for the best prompt 💵

Canva Brings Gifts 🎁

If there's been a pattern in AI recently, it's that competitors like to release things the same week as each other.

Today, that's Canva, following Adobe's AI drop earlier this week. Canva's 125 million users will be getting:

  • Text-to-slide deck

  • Erase and replace items in an image

  • Image-to-design template (e.g., auto-creating a fully-designed flyer using an image)

  • More AI-generated text, now supporting 18 languages

  • Better and faster text-to-image

Canva users can check out their homepage and unwrap these features from the gift boxes.

The announcement clearly puts Canva side-by-side with Adobe. Still, "I think it’s really important just to focus on our own race", says Canva CEO Melanie Perkins.

Zoom out: In just two weeks, we had Microsoft Office/Teams, Google Workspace, Adobe and Canva announce more AI. That's on top of Slack, Discord, Salesforce and more. It only took 4 months for tech to shove AI everywhere we use software.

FROM OUR PARTNERS

This startup writes your interview notes for you ✍️

“If I’m looking this way, I’m just taking notes. Don’t mind me.”

It’s a tale as old as time: Interview candidates, spend half your attention typing notes, forget what they really said.

What if we told you that there’s an AI that takes notes while you interview someone? And when the interview ends, you receive a thorough summary of the entire convo?

That’s Metaview.

It takes notes so you can be present and have the conversation you want to have. No more typing when you should be listening.

Plus, it learns what you like: the more you use it, the more personalized it becomes to your specific style and needs.

It’s a huge time saver and helps you focus on the human on the other side of the call.

Metaview is live on Product Hunt today - go check it out and let the team know what you think!

GPT-4 is General Intelligence? 🧠

Whenever an AI gets too smart, chatter immediately turns to artificial general intelligence (AGI), one of the holy grails of AI.

What it means: AGI is when an AI model can do any intellectual task that a human can. That's in contrast to the type of AI that runs your social media feeds: narrow, specific, single use case.

A team at Microsoft believes GPT-4 is an early signal of AGI.

Their core argument: GPT-4 is simply so good at so many things - language tone/style, understanding complex ideas, code, drawing pictures using code, math, using tools - that it must be a step towards AGI.

It's not AGI itself. There's still a large gap between GPT-4 and humans, along with abilities like "learning from experience" that GPT-4 doesn't do at all.

But you can't help but think about GPT-5. Reports claim OpenAI is using GPT-4 to train GPT-5. How much closer to AGI will GPT-5 be?
