😺 Anthropic's AI utopia
PLUS: What happens when you ask GPT to paint you...
Welcome, humans.
People are asking ChatGPT to “paint me based on our interactions” and getting some totally wild results:
What were these two talking about?! You’ve got the U.S. capitol building, military men, mystical Illuminati references and a Chihuahua.
This dude’s either into deep state conspiracies and Taco Bell, or ChatGPT took some serious liberties. We didn’t even mention the fact that GPT thinks he’s half cyborg…
There’s plenty more where that came from in this thread, and some people’s reactions to what GPT thinks of them are absolutely hilarious.
From our POV, these images are just a reminder at how far behind DALLE 3 is from Midjourney and FLUX.
Oh, and fun fact: people are also asking GPT to roast them based on their interactions, and some of them are absolutely brutal.
Here’s what you need to know about AI today:
Anthropic’s CEO penned a 15K-word magnum “opus”.
The State of AI 2024 report is out.
GPT helped a renter sue a landlord.
There’s now an “AI Safety Clock” counting down towards uncontrolled AGI.
Anthropic might have just taken a page out of OpenAI’s fundraising playbook.
A few weeks ago, we shared how Anthropic, the maker of Claude, is seeking a new round of funding that could value the company as high as $40B.
This comes right after OpenAI’s record-shattering $6.6B+ raise at a $157B valuation. Remember how Sam unleashed his vision for an era of AI prosperity, ushering us into “The Intelligence Age” a few days before that deal closed?
Well, Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei just pulled a similar move. Amodei authored his own 15K-word magnum opus on Friday (Claude Opus pun very much intended), titled “Machines of loving grace.”
And yes, that’s paraphrased from an actual utopian poem about AI.
It outlines his version of what a world with powerful AI might look like “if everything goes right,” which he believes could happen “as early as 2026.”
This powerful AI, “smarter than a Nobel Prize winner across most relevant fields,” could be capable of:
Proving “unsolved mathematical theorems.”
Writing “extremely good novels” and “difficult codebases from scratch.”
Enable “100 years of progress in 5-10 years” in biology and medicine, dubbed the “compressed 21st century.”
That includes some bold medical predictions:
Prevention and treatment of nearly all natural infectious diseases.
95%+ reduction in cancer mortality and incidence.
Doubling of human lifespan to around 150 years.
Amodei predicts AI could drive “20% annual GDP growth" in developing nations, and improve democracies through impartial legal systems and better consensus-building.
While he believes humans will stay relevant initially, he admits we'll need to rethink economic organization long-term. Achieving this utopia will require “great sacrifice and commitment on all our parts.” Translation: investors, open those wallets.
Why this matters: Anthropic is reportedly pitching this vision to investors at a Morgan Stanley event this month. Don't be surprised if a big funding announcement follows soon.

You can now generate videos from text or images—and even extend existing videos—with Adobe's new Firefly Video Model.
Adobe just solved the “cool AI tool, but can I actually use it?” problem for creators.
Starting today, Creative Cloud subscribers can turn any text or images into awesome video clips with Adobe’s new Firefly Video Model (for FREE btw), joining the company's current suite of generative models for images, vectors, and design.
Why’s this a big deal? Adobe’s Firefly Video Model is the first major commercially safe AI video tool—and it integrates directly into the software you already use (example: Generative Extend, available inside Premiere Pro).
No more worrying about whether or not you can use AI in your commercial work.
The Firefly Video Model is in limited public beta on firefly.adobe.com. Join the waitlist here.
Around the Horn.
Full thread recapping more robot news here. This open-source robot development platform is a cool one (code here).
The State of AI Report 2024 is out—we’ll break down the full report later this week.
Related to yesterday’s Sunday Special—AI is helping empower “pig butchering” scams, giving scammers the ability to deepfake themselves and translate their scripts into different languages.
GPT helped someone sue their landlord without a lawyer, saving what would have been hundreds of dollars per hour in legal fees via a $20 subscription.
There is now an “AI Safety Clock” (similar to the “Doomsday Clock” for nuclear risk) that indicates how close we are to “uncontrolled AGI”—it’s currently at 29 minutes to midnight.
Treats To Try.
*Tessa from Attention helps you never lose a deal to slow follow-up again. She automatically generates follow-up emails, and auto-fills your CRM with detailed notes from meetings. If your business sells anything, we highly recommend you check out Attention here.
Check out this open-source voice clone tool that Ethan Mollick shared—as he said, it used to take a commercial service like Elevenlabs to pull off this kind of quality (code here, project on HuggingFace to try, and more demos here).
Want to try a generated version of CSGO (the video game formerly known as Counter strike)? Here’s a demo—really early stage, it looks like you’re playing inside an AI computer’s dream, but fascinating to try! (code + more here).
Fal.ai provides you with a platform to build creative apps using fast generative AI models.
Tildei lets you create personalized, interactive marketing campaigns on WhatsApp without coding (raised $6M—gotta book demos atm, FYI).
Unriddle helps you quickly find information in research papers, simplifies complex topics, and automatically links related topics together (demo video).
xAI’s Grok 2 is available to access via API through Openrouter now.

Here’s what #Neuron readers had to say about last week’s video:
G.E: “The dogs fur wasn’t wet! And the fire dancer was fire bending, there were no sticks!”
A.T: “The fire-spinner's hands rapidly disconnected from and reconnected to their arms, and otherwise moved in impossible ways.”
A.G: “The car was fake.”
R.M: “Nothing... and we're all too bothered to be honest about it.”
