😺 AI's nuts and bolts

PLUS: Massive new Midjourney feature!!!

Welcome, humans.

Saw a ChatGPT wrapper yesterday named “Noah”.

Hmmm. Can we collect royalties? Sue for trademark infringement? Launch a rival called “Pete”? It’s game on like Donkey Kong!

Here’s what you need to know about AI today:

  • The biggest hurdle for companies eyeing AI is data management.

  • Midjourney lets you photoshop sections of an image!

  • Figma launched an AI-brainstorming feature.

  • AI is helping mute people communicate!

Many Companies’ Data Is Too Disorganized To Train AI.

Yeah, it’s like that.

AI is like a car, and data is the gasoline.

Just as a car needs a lot of gas AND a nearby gas pump, an AI model requires not just tons data to train on, but also data that's readily accessible.

This is why, according to S&P’s survey of 1,500 AI decision-makers, data management is the #1 challenge for companies that wanting to implement AI at work. It’s even bigger than security, which is saying something.

The main issue is their data is scattered all-over-the-place, in various formats, and without labels (think: library without a catalog). Getting this data in order can take years, say IT leaders.

So here are a few immediate steps companies should consider (ASAP):

  • Hire experts in data governance (or enlist consultants).

  • Consolidate all your data on the public cloud (the most common starting place for AI pioneers).

  • Clean and label all your data (here’s a guide).

  • Start training models on your data (e.g., with Amazon SageMaker).

Time to clean your data like you'd scrub a public toilet at Exxon Mobil!

Investing In SEO Could Help Drive More Traffic To Your Business.

AI hasn’t killed SEO (search engine optimization) just yet.

More than 50% of all website views come from search. But here’s the truth: if your website doesn’t land on that first page of results, only 0.63% of searchers will see that you exist.

Positional helps your pages clinch that first-page spot.

They optimize your pages for term frequency, long-tail keywords, sentiment, and word count by harnessing data, data, and even more data.

You Can Now Modify Parts Of Images On Midjourney.

Midjourney, the top AI art platform, now offers inpainting, which lets users modify a portion of an image they wish to change.

The feature is similar to Adobe’s Generative Fill, except you still have to work with images generated by Midjourney, which is just fine because they're spectacular.

Here’s how the feature works:

select the region you want to change → describe what you want to add.

And voila, a new image emerges. For marketers and designers, inpainting can be invaluable for correcting or incorporating text into an AI image. Here's the best guide we found on this.

Here are some anticipated Midjourney updates courtesy of Nick “the AI art king”:

  • website (so we’re not stuck in Discord!).

  • easier text creation.

  • 3D generation…

Around the Horn.

  • Wisconsin launched an AI task force to explore how AI will transform the workforce.

  • Figma released a feature that helps you brainstorm using ChatGPT.

  • Twilio’s AI, which helps businesses understand their customers better, added a slew of new features.

  • Nvidia crushed earnings, with revenue more than doubling from last year.

  • AI is helping people who lost the ability to speak communicate again through brain signals.

Treat To Try.

Meta’s sick new speech model “SeamlessM4T” lets you translate your voice or text into nearly 100 languages.

Think of it as Google Translate for your voice … on steroids. Travelling abroad is about to get wayy easier.

Thursday Trivia.

Growing up we didn’t play many video games. Too busy nerding out.

Had the remote controllers been designed by AI, perhaps we would’ve.

One glance, everyone knows the rules: one is AI and one is real.

Which is which?

A Cat's Commentary.

Trivia Answer: A is AI (creds) and B is real!
