GPT Will Impact Certain Types Of Workers 👇

According to research conducted by OpenAI on the labor market, 80% of US workers are likely to have some of their work tasks impacted by GPT.

Are you a part of the 80%?

If your job involves informational-based tasks like writing and programming, you’re exposed to AI infection. We’re talking about researchers, accountants, and newsletter writers. Wait, f*ck!

Not all white-collar workers will be hit: the findings showed that science and critical thinking skills are negatively associated with GPT exposure. Hey, we think critically!

On the other hand, people who perform physical work, or what we call ‘real people work,’ are relatively immune to computer language models.

Don’t worry, this research isn’t to say that widespread automation is imminent. Instead, It’s to warn that GPT will soon have massive ripple effects in the workplace.

To policymakers: OpenAI suggests that measures like safety net programs and worker retraining programs could be helpful ways to prepare for AI.

AI Helps Researchers Read Minds 🧠

As a kid, I always wanted to read people’s minds. I was curious, not nosy, for goodness' sake!

Yesterday, a study published by researchers at UT Austin showed we’re not so far from deciphering people’s thoughts from their brain activity.

• In the study, participants listened to recordings and were asked to discuss what they heard while undergoing an fMRI scan.

• Researchers then used a large language model to predict phrases from their brain activity.

In the past, decoders could only capture words from the brain. In this study, the AI decoder captured the actual meanings of the passages participants said out loud.

It’s partly thanks to a feature of AI called “neural network maps,” which capture the relationships between the meaning of words and phrases in a network. And that’s how “The Neuron” was born :)

Why it matters: The study was not without limitations, such as requiring a new language model for each participant. Yet, it might be a step toward helping interpret speech for individuals who can’t speak!
