šŸ˜ŗ Advanced Voice Mode is here

PLUS: New tools from Microsoft, Google, Figma, and Spotify...

Welcome, humans.

Fall is upon us. Anyone else ready for spooky season? If so, youā€™re in luck, because we just found one of the best AI horror shorts weā€™ve ever seen (as in, intentionally scary AI):

Speaking of scary, it looks like ChatGPT now knows when you take screenshots. Why are you doing this to us OpenAI?! Itā€™s not even October and now Iā€™m bricking it over here!

Hereā€™s what you need to know about AI today:

  • Microsoft added a "hallucination fixā€ to its API.

  • OpenAI will open its training data to copyright plaintiffs

  • Google, Figma, and Spotify all launch new AI tools.

  • Hackers found way to plant false ChatGPT memories.

Advanced voice mode is (finally) rolling out this week.

Idk if ā€œā€˜Sorry Iā€™m lateā€™ in over 50 languagesā€ entirely makes up for it being soooo lateā€¦ but itā€™s pretty great.

Itā€™s official: The most advanced talking version of ChatGPT, Advanced Voice Mode (#AVM), is finally getting its wide releaseā€¦ heavy emphasis on ā€œfinally.ā€

Starting today, and over the course of the week, the feature will be rolled out to all paying ChatGPT subscribers (unless you live in Europe, which btw, has ppl ā€œsuper frustrated.ā€ European #AVM users be likeā€¦)

The long-awaited feature comes with five new voices, improved accents (for select languages), and custom instructions + memory.

Custom instructions is cool (example here), because you can tell it speak in a specific cadence, speak slower, or talk to you by a preferred name.

How to know if / when you have access:

If youā€™re a ChatGPT Plus or Team user, youā€™ll get the following notification in the app when you get access:

People are already getting access, and hereā€™s what early users are saying:

Greg Brockman (OpenAI co-founder) says #AVM ā€œmakes you realize how unnatural typing things into a computer really is.ā€

But some are saying this version of #AVM is a step backwards in terms of usefulness: no search, no custom GPTs, and no images. ā€œPeople wanted ā€˜Herā€™ but got ā€˜Meh.ā€™ā€

Word of warning: It looks like thereā€™s daily limits, too. One user reported getting a 15 minute warning after about 30-40 minutes of chatting (so, 1 hour limit per day?).

P.S: If you live in Europe, some users have confirmed VPNs work!
