PLUS: How we're making The Neuron stand out in the AI era

Welcome, humans.

The AI doomers remind us of our great-uncles ranting about politics at Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, the world could fall apart. But please just let us enjoy the one-in-a-lifetime feast on our plates! 🦃✨

Here’s what you need to know about AI today:

  • ChatGPT search interest dipped in July and August (so far).

  • AI skills are in high demand, but so are people skills.

  • More professionals are branding themselves as “AI talent.”

  • YouTube wants to shield artists from AI-generated music.

AI Job Openings Have Skyrocketed And So Have Their Salaries.

Some folks think AI is overhyped.

This may be true regarding mainstream usage. Search interest for ChatGPT dropped in BOTH July and August.

However, businesses certainly don’t think AI is overhyped at all. Here's how we know: the demand for AI talent is greater than ever (by far):

And companies are willing to pay handsomely for those who really know their sh*t (a recent Netflix AI job went viral for its $900k salary tag).

Interestingly, the number of people identifying as “AI talent” has also skyrocketed.

A LinkedIn report found that users added AI-related terms like “ChatGPT” and “Prompt Engineering” to their profiles 15x more in June than in January.

But as more professionals label themselves as "AI talent," companies will have to determine which "AI skills" are genuinely relevant.

Here’s our take: Hard skills like AI Engineering (think: you can actually build AI systems and products) are underhyped. Soft skills like being an above-average prompt engineer are overhyped.

brb … we’re pasting every single AI #hashtag into our LinkedIn bio so we can land that $900k Netflix job!

Being “Human-Like” Is More Important Than Ever.

LinkedIn

As AI skills grow in importance, so too are people skills.

The same LinkedIn AI report found that since ChatGPT emerged, the fastest growing in-demand skills are actually anti-AI skills…

  • Flexibility (+158%).

  • Professional ethics (+120%).

  • Social perceptiveness (+118%).

  • Self-management (83%).

…and an astonishing 92% of execs agree that people skills are more crucial now than ever before.

What this means for you: In a world where AI can handle many human tasks, excelling at what AI can't do (at least for the foreseeable future) is a tremendous advantage.

For us, that's crafting content that resonates as human-written, not AI-generated (cause it is). It's making typos in our spellng. Cracking jokes. Embracing a cat-themed brand.

This piece does a great job explaining the importance of distinguishing oneself against generative AI, using writing as an example.

Around the Horn.

  • YouTube is partnering with Universal Music and big artists to ensure artists are compensated for AI-generated music.

  • Awesome interview with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on how Microsoft became a leader in AI.

  • The New York Times finally blocked OpenAI’s website crawler from exporting its web content.

  • Financial advisors are gradually embracing AI for corporate analysis and research but face implementation hurdles.
